A3: Autonomy of GYG regarding the candidacies of OC members
Motion text
Change line 203 “All oversight committee members must be members of Global
Greens member organization…” to “All oversight committee members must be members
of Global Young Greens member organizations”
Reason
Global Young Greens should be independent from the Global Greens in terms of its decision-making. There is no benefit for GYG to limit our pool of candidates for SC and it allows GG to structurally influence our decision-making process, in the sense that we could only elect people who they approve. GYG and GG have separate memberships. This principle is against our belief in youth’s autonomy and GYG’s. It also significantly limits member organizations’ involvement in GYG in case they have seperated membership lists from their mother parties, which are not uncommon especially for Europe and Asia-Pacific regions.
This restriction might also prevent active and engaged young Greens across all regions from standing in elections, which can worsen the lack of participation from MOs in the GYG network. In other words, we need all the talented and engaged people we could get in this network.
In addition, this principle also fails to consider the financial restraints many young Greens are facing, as a party membership fee could be too high for some to afford.
